Although Charlie and Reece agreed to leave their night of passion in the past, temptation eventually gets the best of Penelope. She and Reece each have their struggles as they work the ranch. They each have a past that haunts them. Eventually, though, they earn a happy ending.Fans of books such as Nicolas Sparks’ Safe Haven or the movie Sleeping with the Enemy starring Julia Roberts will enjoy this story. Penelope’s brave escape from her controlling husband is a nail-biter, and her abusive marriage has crippled her. Her arduous journey to a life of freedom takes real bravery. The open range and fresh air on the ranch as well as working with the cattle help Penelope to both keep busy and to immerse in nature. She gradually begins to find herself there.Penelope and Reece’s romance takes the reader into calving season in Central Texas. As Charlie, Penelope gets a new lease on life. Still, she must face her past if she hopes to become whole again and move forward. The story is nicely written. The plot is fairly simple. Penelope’s character is nicely developed. The story is written in first person in Penelope’s POV, with one chapter third person in Reece’s POV and one chapter third person in Buck’s POV. I rate this book four stars.I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I liked a lot of the story. The characters were great and real and funny. I liked Charlie a lot, and Ruth is amazing. What irritates me so bad is that there isn't an HEA. No love is admitted. No marriage or babies. I'm not happy.
